Be sober [watchful], be vigilant [actively cautious], because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour. – 1 Peter 5:8 KJV
A quick word study of this verse leaves us with some interesting ideas.
The Greek word for “roaring” is ōryomai pronounced ō-rü’-o-mī can mean the roaring of an animal, but it can also mean to sing with a loud voice.
Considering Satan was put in charge of music I see yet another reason Christians should pay attention to what [and whom] they listen to!
One description for the Greek word for “walking” is “to make one’s way, progress; to make due use of opportunities”.
God I love word studies!
Considering the fact that we’re also told in Ephesians 4:27 to “Give no place to the devil,” it’s no wonder we’re told to be watchful. Part of being watchful involves being ever quick to obey and stay as close to Him as we possibly can.
On one hand, I wish the pre-tribulation rapture were true, but on the other, I don’t. I know there will be much pain and suffering for those under God’s judgment during the trib, but I also believe that God will see His children through those times.
Will we be martyred?
Of course. Aren’t our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ being killed right now, as you read this?
But God gives His grace (which includes His sustaining power and Peace) to go through whatever we have to face.
It’s up to His body of believers to lift each other up, not tear each other down.
Of course that doesn’t mean we ignore sin in the members. No way.
But we do all things in love and for His glory.
Right now I’m in the process of putting together a guide for Christians to have for when the world they’ve known all of their lives goes down the tube.
I don’t have the title finalized, but it will be something along these lines: “The Christian Woman’s Tribulation Survival Guide: A Tool for Keeping Your Faith, Your Family and Your Sanity”
It will be a collection of word studies, scripture and of course, warrior prayers for the Christian woman.
