The Writing Continues…

Still plugging away, albeit much slower than I like, on my story; working title In His Name.

So far I’d say that it’s a “thriller”. I put the word “thriller” into quotes because I’m not entirely sure it fits that category.

I’m also leaning towards “horror”, which, thanks to Mike Duran’s awesome treatise Christian Horror: On the Compatibility of a Biblical Worldview and the Horror Genre I now realize involves much more than the “blood and guts” type of stories.

The villain in my story is a serial killer, and the protagonist is a freelance journalist and an amateur detective who is somehow connected to the killer.

It also includes technology elements, but…I don’t know, we’ll see where it goes. 🙂

I know I’ve said it before, but it is great fun writing into the dark. I’m still a bit squeamish about the whole “uncertainty” thing, but am slowly learning to embrace it.

Since I’m still working on a solid habit of writing every day there can be many days….weeks even, unfortunately, where I don’t work on this story.

On one hand, it’s frustrating, but on the other, there is a benefit…I have to read the story again to find out where I am in the telling of it, so I have ideas pop into my head as I’m reading it that I think might be able to be used…

But still, it’s much better to get into the writing habit than not, right?

I’m playing with the idea in the back of my mind that once I’ve got the habit going fairly good I’ll try to shoot for two short stories per month, then build up to one per week, but only after time.

There’s still the day job after all!

And of course, there’s the whole “working on more than one story at a time” thing that I can’t seem to get a handle on. My personality is such that it drives me NUTS if I don’t finish one story before starting another.

Is that a good thing or a bad thing?
