Musings, Writing business

Day 6…er…7 of the 7 Day Writing Challenge

Totally missed posting yesterday…moving on.

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking lately about what I want to do with my business.

While I enjoy working with clients, in all honesty, I really want to write for myself, so am trying to come up with a plan to “escape”.

Most people would probably sneer and say “you’re working from home, what more do you want?” and they’re right…I am blessed to be able to do so.

But I also want to write for my own business by helping other small business owners who cannot afford to hire a copywriter.

Giving them the DIY tools, as it were…

So to that end, I’m planning to change my other website to be more focused on small business marketing. I will also do some affiliate marketing for resources that I think can really help small business owners increase traffic and grow their businesses.

At least that’s the plan in my head…I’ve still got to work out all of the details.

And then, last but not least (first, actually) I want to write…and hopefully sell…more fiction.

But it’s not going to happen if I don’t put focus into it, is it?

So while I’m “waiting for my [fiction writing] ship to come in” (paraphrasing a favorite saying of my dad’s) I’ll need to keep the lights on – and the bellies fed – by growing my niche website while still doing client work.

Can we say overload?

Then once my niche website has grown to the point where it’s bringing in enough revenue to replace my client income, I’ll be able to focus even more on my fiction because much of the niche website can be automated.

BONUS: The marketing strategies that I’ll be sharing on the niche website will work as well for marketing my fiction. 🙂

Why don’t I just focus on building my fiction writing while still doing client work?

Because I believe the more diversified I can become with my IP, the better it will be for my business.

Hence the reason for building a niche website.

What do you think? Crazy? Or a good idea?
