Inspire Yourself…Bribery isn’t Off the Table Either

I get David Farland’s newsletter, and while he always has some great tidbits of advice for writers, his comments about being your own inspiration struck a chord with me.

“I suspect that I was born to do art of some kind.

Kevin J. Anderson has said, “My muse isn’t a beautiful spirit who whispers ethereally into my ear—she’s a nagging harpy that grabs me by the throat and screams ‘Do it now’!” [emphasis mine]

Writing consistently

I cannot for the life of me remember the quote in its entirety…nor the original author…but I love the quote about writing that goes something like:

My muse always shows up promptly at 8 am, which is, coincidentally, the same time I sit down to start writing.

I had grand plans to do NaNoWriMo, and I even thought up a story idea and created a premise for it, but…nah.

I can find the time, sure, but I’ve got plans to build up a small business marketing website, so need to focus more on that when I’m not doing client work.

Maybe next year.

I am, however, still going to work on my stories, so not stopping that.

I’ll be starting a 90-day content creation challenge for the marketing website (with myself) so need to map out my content plans this weekend and then get started.
