Yes, the headline is obtuse.
Let me explain.
You see, I love(d) politics. I was a die hard CNN watcher, did my part to vote for the candidate who I thought would do a better job and then watched the results roll in.
But now, I suppose you could say my eyes have been opened.
Pandora’s box didn’t just get opened…the entire lid has been blown off!
How did I reach this state of affairs?
I literally saw that neither my votes, nor my husband’s votes were counted in the election before Trump ran against Hillary…so that would have been 2012, right?
You see, we live in a small (no…tiny) community.
So when they posted the election results for our little township I knew that it was all a big fat lie.
Both my husband and I voted for write-in candidates, which was allowed.
The vote tally showed ZERO votes for the candidates we’d chosen.
Which we both knew was a lie…obviously because we’d voted for them.
So fine. Somebody messed up and didn’t count the write-ins, right?
Sure. We’ll go with that…but then there’s something else…
Little to nothing changes for the better, no matter who is in office.
For example, people voted for Trump because they’re tired of the wars and want us out of these endless debacles.
Didn’t happen.
So…yeah…not only are we STILL fighting a certain NATION’S WARS (hint: not America’s), we’re fighting MORE of them!
Anyone notice all of the generals in charge of Washington foreign policy?
Bottom line, you can close your eyes, push a button and someone will win.
But it won’t be you and I, the average individual on the street.
But the economy
Sure…it’s good for some people, but the homeless?
Not so much.
“In 2012, Massachusetts changed its laws so that one way a family could become eligible for emergency shelter was by spending a night in a place that was “not meant for human habitation.”
The result, according to a new study, was that more children ended up going to the emergency room — citing homelessness — in order to meet that criteria. Emergency rooms then had to spend time taking care of children who did not have serious medical needs.
“That’s really when we started seeing this large increase in children coming to the emergency department for homelessness,” said Dr. Amanda Stewart, an emergency room physician in Boston Children’s Hospital who is the study’s lead author.
Stewart added, “There’s a significant cost in this, in addition to the burden it places on families.”
The study was published Monday in Pediatrics, a journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
The study looked at emergency room visits to Boston Children’s Hospital between 2010 and 2016 and identified 312 visits where the chief complaint was that the child was homeless and had nowhere else to go. (Some also came with a medical complaint but were identified as being homeless.) Of those, 297 visits happened after the policy shift.”
Of course, this article then begs the question WHY did Massachusetts feel the need to make this law?
Why LIMIT people’s access to emergency shelter? Are existing facilities overburdened?
And then there’s the WORKING POOR
According to Pew Research, most Americans have experienced stagnant wages for the past four decades.
“But despite the strong labor market, wage growth has lagged economists’ expectations. In fact, despite some ups and downs over the past several decades, today’s real average wage (that is, the wage after accounting for inflation) has about the same purchasing power it did 40 years ago. And what wage gains there have been have mostly flowed to the highest-paid tier of workers.”
I could go on, ad nauseam, but you get the idea…it’s all smoke and mirrors and the little foxes are getting FAT, so why add salt to the wounds by casting a meaningless vote in the clearly foolish idea that it will do anything.
After the mid-terms are all said and done, the “new guys on the block” will show up to their new offices, bright and early, eager to make a difference (snigger) and they’ll get their EDUMACATION from the “old guys on the block” about how things are REALLY DONE, and who is REALLY IN CHARGE.
Then, while they’re getting comfortable and settling in, the voters can pat themselves on the back that “their guy/girl” got into office and things are going to change now…
