Writing villains…

I’ve done everything I can do so far on my current WIP, so now it’s time to bring out the baddie…

I suck at villains.

Seems I either steer towards “nice” villains (ha!) or superficial, stereotypical villains.

Or, no villains whatsoever…

Which, of course, can make for some rather dull reading.

Sigh.

So, I’m doing a bit of research. I know I need to give him a backstory, to show how he got to be the person he is now, but I wanted to be sure that I’m not missing anything.

That’s why I tapped my bulging Evernote folders, looking for bits of writing wisdom.

I found several things that I believe are pointing me in the right direction, so I’m feeling a bit better about developing this character.

Here’s a pic of my villian for In His Name. Handsome devil ain’t he?

He’s a charmer, a schemer and anything but good…but still need to figure out why he’s got something against my main character.

Ah, the mystery…kind of like walking in a fog where you can only see a few feet ahead of you…fun, while also unnerving!
