No, You Can’t “Have/Do” It All, Cupcake!

No, dear girl, you have to choose.

You only have so many hours in the day. So much mental energy and time to spend.

God gives me the same time as He gives others. I have to choose what to do with that time.

The unfortunate thing of having so many different interests is that I have to choose.

And by choosing…by saying “yes”, I’m simultaneously saying “no” to other things.

Will that “no” be forever?

Maybe. I don’t know. Perhaps it’s the perceived permanence that puts me in a quandry. That freezes me to inaction.

But if I go the opposite route and say “yes” to everything I am interested in then I won’t achieve success in any of those things!

For example, graphic design. I like the idea of creating designs, book covers, etc. but it takes time and dedication to become better skilled at design.

I can’t imagine I could become proficient in a few hours; or even as long as a month.

Could I? Don’t know – I’ll have to research it.

What if I could get good at design in a couple of months? What would I do with that? Sell my designs? There are so many full-time designers out there and at the end of the day I’d still be doing client work…

But, I could use design skills for my books, websites, etc. So there is definitely value there, but as I said earlier, there are only so many hours in a day…

Same thing with photography, which I’m also interested in…

So next is the writing.

I’m doing client work, but I’m not building assets for myself. Instead, I’m building others’ businesses more than my own which is short-sighted.

So then…do I focus on fiction and non-fiction only? Do I focus on a money-making website?

Again, we come back to the fact that I’ve only got so many hours in the day, so I have to say “yes” to only those things that I enjoy (because, who wants to run their own business doing something they don’t enjoy?) and those things that will benefit my business and ultimately myself and my family.

In addition to client work, I need time to take care of my home and family. I need time to decompress and relax (which is what crocheting and knitting do for me).

Ah, there you are…welcome back…back to the same question…what do I focus my time on?

Glad you asked…

  1. I enjoy writing this blog, so I’ll keep it
  2. I need to take care of my family
  3. I need to do client work (to help pay the bills to take care of the family)
  4. I want to write books
  5. I want different clients with deeper pockets

So then, in answer to my question, the plan moving forward needs to involve all of these things.

So, at least for now, I’m taking the following off the list:

  • Create a money making website
  • Learn how to use Inkscape to create designs
  • Learn more about graphic design
  • Learn more about digital photography

And (in addition to taking care of my home and family and doing client work, I’m keeping the following:

  • Write 2 hours every day on my stories
  • Share this blog and content on accooperwrites social sites
  • LeedGeneration website: Write marketing content 1 blog per week and share on LinkedIn and Alignable to help market my business
  • Post/comment/share on LinkedIn and Alignable every weekday – again to help market my business

Now for the hard part…doing the work! As always, it comes down to BICHOK!!!
