Recently, I decided to leave off my little Hallmark-style romance and go back to a story I began sometime last year, I believe.
It was supposed to have been a short story, but…when I reached the end, I realized it’s over 17,000 words, so I guess it’ll be a novella.
Ya think, Anita?
No worries…well, kinda worries…I need to make the cover. I’ve never made a supernatural-type cover before, so this will be interesting.
UPDATE: I made the cover – what do you think?

According to Chat, the genre it likely fits is Supernatural / Mythic Adventure Thriller. Other labels include:
- Supernatural Adventure
- Mythic Thriller
- Supernatural Suspense
- Dark Fantasy Adventure
- Occult / Supernatural Thriller
I want to double-check this recommendation, of course; I feel it’s more of a drama than a thriller, so maybe “supernatural suspense” is more accurate.
Funny thing is, towards the end of the story, my creative voice decided to bring in references to the Most High, and the main character talks with two “men” who are obviously angels.
So, there is a small part of the story that is overtly Christian, but because it comes later, it’s not really appropriate to market as a Christian book. Not to mention the few minor curse words here and there.
And of course, there’s a tiny reference to time travel. Nothing to see here, lol.

Poor story…doesn’t know what it wants to be. But it makes sense, at least to me.
Next, the plan is to read through and edit one more time before formatting in Atticus. And do some cover research.
Here’s the synopsis.
Staring at an empty bank account, Oscar Hernandez doesn’t ask questions when approached to dive as part of Project Deep Search, an unusual expedition led by the brilliant but megalomaniacal Professor Benjamin Fellowes.
While the official mission is to harvest a revolutionary “free energy” source from the submerged ruins of the Grecian city Pavlopetri, Oscar suspects Fellowes is chasing something far more ancient and dangerous.
Monday, February 16, 2026 update:
I formatted Poseidon Awakens in Atticus.io, and now I’m on the hunt for some cover ideas. I’ve already got a logjam on covers; The Rebuilding, and Hannah and the Gnomes also need to be done.
Weekend plan: throw some ideas together in Affinity…love doing covers, but not as much as writing stories. 😁
The bottom line, I’m making progress on my goal of building my backlist, which makes me as happy as a clam!
Note to self: No, don’t ask Chat if clams can be happy…you’ve got better things to do with your time…
